History of the Brand Kenzo Kids

Kenzo Origin and Present Day

The iconic fashion house Kenzo was founded in Paris in 1970 by Kenzo Takada. He opened the brand's first womenswear boutique in Galerie Vivienne and decided to call it Jungle Jap, after being inspired by a painting of a jungle by Henri Rousseau. Right from the start, he offered consumers a different vision compared to typical Parisian couture. Kenzo embodied a free global spirit. It was bold, colourful and decorated with handpainted murals influenced by the culture of Japan: lotus flowers and tigers. In 1983, Takada added menswear to his collections, followed by kidswear and homeware in 1987.
Design duo Humberto Leon and Carol Lim became Kenzo's creative directors for eight years, before departing the label in 2019. They helped reposition the 50-year-old brand as a contemporary label during their time and undertook various exciting collaborations with other brands, including Vans and H&M. They were also praised for their support of diversity on the catwalk, and for their inventive fashion shows, which often included live music and theatre.
Today, Kenzo is directed by Felipe Oliveira Baptista, who was appointed in 2019. However, he is due to bid farewell soon, and there are rumours that his replacement will be Casablanca's Charaf Tajer.

The Evolution of Kenzo Kids

With colour at its heart, Kenzo kids has always been on the bold side. The sports-luxe outfits allow little ones to be comfy for play while still standing out. The dresses and skirts are often made from sweatshirt jersey material, and the dresses have dropped waists, perfect for teaming with trainers and being active. Embroidery is a key theme every season, especially when it comes to showcasing the iconic tiger-face motif. Prints are also popular; you'll often find intricate floral motifs and Kenzo lettering for a nod to the brand.
